In accordance with recommendation 61 of the 2013 Tasmanian Bushfires Inquiry Report, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer led a joint review of DHHS and THO social recovery arrangements.  The purpose of the review was to identify gaps in planning and operational capability and develop options to improve existing arrangements.  As a result of the review the Department of Health and Human Services and Tasmanian Health Organisations Social Recovery Plan was developed.

The intent of the plan is to clarify and confirm the social recovery arrangements and roles and responsibilities performed and managed by the DHHS and THOs in accordance with the relevant State and National emergency management legislation, policy and planning requirements.  The plan will assist position the DHHS and THOs to best meet the social recovery needs of the community before, during and after an emergency in an integrated and sustainable manner and within the context of current and future service delivery and governance arrangements.
