The Tasmanian Department of Health supports and promotes research in our hospitals and clinical services.

The Research Governance Unit provides advice in respect to research in Tasmanian public health services, and liaises with other jurisdictions on research initiatives.

The Department funds the ethical review of research projects, that involve patients, clients and staff members of public health services, by the University of Tasmania HREC.

The Department also works with local hospitals and federal government agencies to help attract research programs and funding to the state so that research can positively impact on the health of all Tasmanians.

All research activities in Tasmanian public health services must have research governance approval and ethics approval before commencing.

Note: These pages are being updated and revamped in preparation for the release and implementation of the Research Governance Policy Framework - please be aware that information may be incomplete or be a placeholder for a future/final version.
